What is “his righteousness” in Matthew 6:33? In its basic form it is living right in the sight of God. Think about that for a second. God wants us to live a life that is right in His sight. This is the same God that will judge every human being that has ever lived and who also knows the number of hairs on our heads. Talk about accountability. But that’s the point.
More than a destination life is a journey. As believers our journey should be guided by a constant pursuit of God. Being right in the sight of God is not just something we have done but it must be something we are doing.
To fully grasp how monumental the task for us is consider humanities WRONG-ness. From our very birth there is a nature of sin working within our members compelling us to do contrary to what God desires us to do and ultimately to be (thank Adam for this). And if you doubt this than consider children, no one has to teach them to lie…. the nature of sin inherited within them due to the fall of humankind in the Garden compels them to do it.
If you somehow suppose that humankind has some righteousness please examine the prophet Isaiah’s evaluation of humanities righteousness in Isaiah 64:6. Humankind has some wrong-ness about it. But God requires righteousness. That can only be had by us if we are in His Kingdom. Not walking around it. Not going in and out of it. But in his Kingdom.
So have you considered your wrong-ness lately? Not talking about the things in your life you think you have together. But the things in your life that do not measure up to God’s Words Kingdom requirements. Examine yourself. Seek “his righteousness”.
